An asylum application is a request for protection in the UK if you fear persecution in your home country due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership of a particular social group.

At IAA Level 1, advisers can only give basic guidance on the process, not handle full asylum claims.

Process (Initial Stage):

1. Claim asylum – at port of entry or Asylum Intake Unit.
2. Screening interview – ID, fingerprints, short reasons; issued Asylum Registration Card (ARC).
3. Asylum support – if destitute, apply for housing and weekly allowance.
4. Caseworker assigned – later you’ll have a substantive interview
