UK Administrative Review: Request a Decision Check on Your Visa or Immigration Case

If your UK visa or immigration application has been refused and you believe there was an error in the decision-making process, an Administrative Review (AR) allows the Home Office to re-examine its own decision.

At ORBIT Legal Consultancy, we guide you through the AR process—checking your eligibility, submitting the application correctly, and helping you understand the next steps—so you can maximise your chance of a fair outcome.

Eligibility

You can apply for AR if:

You applied for a UK visa or immigration decision that allows administrative review (the refusal letter will say if you are eligible).
Commonly available for:
   ➤ Points-based visas (work/study routes)
   ➤ Certain family/private life refusals
   ➤ EU Settlement Scheme refusals
Not available for:
➤ Visitor visas outside the UK
   ➤ Asylum decisions
➤ Decisions where a full appeal right is given

Process

1. Check your refusal letter

It will confirm if you can apply for AR.
Note the deadline (usually 14 days if inside the UK, 28 days if outside the UK).

2. Apply online

Submit the administrative review form on GOV.UK.
Pay the fee (£80).

3. Decision processing

You’ll receive a letter or email with the outcome.
If unsuccessful, you may need to reapply or consider other appeal/judicial review options.
Usually 28 days, but complex cases can take longer.
